The V and the B are Pronounced the Same

In the Spanish alpahbet, we find the both letters v and b. Although in few centuries ago both b and v are pronounced with two different sounds nowadays these letters are pronounced as the same phoneme in Spanish language, so is for thatt the Spanish speakers pronounce the Spanish ´´b´´ in all English words that are spelled both B and V. But this problem is easier to solve because consonant ´´v´´ is produce when we put our upper teeth on our lower lip while the consonat ´´b´´ , its sound is produced when we close our lips.


Exercise #1  : Sound Bingo to identify the sounds of the V and B

Objective:

    In the following bingo, you could find the following phoneme of the letters b and v. The objective of this activity is that you can identify the differences of pronunciation between b and v. You can repeat the activity the time you think is necessary.

 

Steps:

1.       First you must listen an audio (The audio is in the link). In the audio there are a total of 20 words, 10 words with v and 10 words with b. You can listen the audio as much as you want.

 

2.       Then with a check mark you must select and identify which sounds of the letter are with b and which are with v.

3.       Finally, check your answers if they are correct or not.

Exercise #2

Objective: The objective of this exercise is that you know the correct pronunciation both v and b consonasts.

Instructions:

1. In pairs, you must read each sentence

2. Then, each one must have to dictate the sentences until get a better comprehension of both sounds of these consonants.

- I have five days of vacation the next week.

-There is a river across the valley.

-We will buy beautiful bananas in the supermarket.

-I believe that there are many beautiful reasons to be happy.

-Benny likes blueberries but not blackberries.

                Dropping consonants sounds at the end of the words

When Spanish speakers speak English, they usually drop consonants at the end of the words. This problem usually happens because in Spanish consonants never appear or maybe we never pronounce them at the end of the words. Among the most common mistakes that sometines Spanish speaker commit we have the pronunciation of the ´´ed´´ in verbs in past tense, for example the verbs loved, watched, and listened, Spanish speakers only pronounce them as love, watch, and listen without the ed sound.


Exercise 1: Playing to find the final consonant sounds in the verbs in past

The purpose of this exercise is to identify the pronunciation of words ending in ed. These sounds are usually difficult for Spanish speaker so this exercise helps you a lot in the pronunciation of the final consonant sounds.

Instructions:

1.       You must listen the following three audios with their sounds for each pronunciation sounds.

2.       You can repeat the audio the time as you want until to identify the final consonant sound of the verbs in past.

3.       Finally, you must put a check mark red if the final consonant sound of the verbs in past is t, a check mark yellow if the final consonant sound is with id and the last a check mark green if the final consonant sound is with d the to demonstrate which are the final consonants sounds of each verb in past tense.

Exercise 2: Tongue twister to pronounce the final consonants sounds.

Instruction:

The objective of this activity is that Spanish speaker students can pronounce well the final consonants sounds and also can to improve these kinds of pronunciation, so pay attention to the following instructions.

1. You must read and practice the tongue twisters carefully.

2. After carefully reading and practicing the tongue twisters, you can read it with a little more speed.

 

3. Challenge yourself to read the tongue twisters quickly and without making mistakes.
